Join us for Doors Open Minneapolis!

We are delighted to participate in the citywide Doors Open Minneapolis event, taking place this weekend, May 18th and 19th. Doors Open is a weekend-long event “that allows the public free, behind-the-scenes access to buildings in the City of Minneapolis that are architecturally, culturally, or socially significant.” (www.doorsopenminneapolis.org)

Lundstrum Performing Arts will be open from 10 am to 5 pm on both Saturday and Sunday and guests can drop in anytime to tour our studios and learn more about our musical theater classes and program. Guests can also borrow from the Lundstrum costume and prop room to take a fun selfie with family and friends.

In addition to drop-in activities, the weekend will feature a number of fun classes taught by professional acting and dance faculty. These classes are for all ages and no prior experience is required!

From 11 am-12 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, join Twin Cities renowned tap-dancers Rick and Andy Ausland for a drop-in class. Rick and Andy are widely known throughout the city for their talents and lead the performing group Buckets and Tap Shoes. You can catch them performing in productions throughout the summer as well as at Lundstrum! Learn more about Rick and Andy at www.bucketsandtapshoes.com

On his Sunday percussion workshop, Rick Ausland noted,

“I’m excited to teach an hands-on bucket percussion workshop. Drop in and learn basic drumming patterns, bucket drumming techniques, and some beats we use in every Buckets and Tap Shoes performance.”

Next up, veteran Twin Cities actress Heather Gerard-Peabody will be leading an improv class on May 18th from 1 pm to 2 pm. Heather Peabody is a professional stand-up and improv comedian, known for her role of Tracy Turnblad in “Hairspray” at the Chanhassen Dinner Theaters, and was even cast in an episode of "Law and Order." Heather is the founder of the improv comedy troupe The Peabody Players, who perform improv comedy and specialize in team building workshops, sales training, and leadership development. Finally, Patrick Moore will be leading a drop-in Hip Hop class from 3 pm to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday, assisted by Lundstrum alum Minnie Warden. Patrick is a triple-threat performer and choreographer, who has sung, danced, acted and choreographed his way through 25 years in performing arts.
