Sing in the Spring

Lundstrum welcomed students from our vocal program to sing for their family and friends in our annual Spring Serenade. Sixteen Lundstrum voice students sang classical arrangements as well as popular musical show tunes.

“But I've climbed the mountain, I've crossed the river, And I'm almost there!”
- Almost There lyrics

Many students song were about hope and overcoming obstacles. Working with Lundstrum’s vocal teachers, students and their instructor choose songs the students enjoy and challenge them. Students performed songs from musicals such as Camelot, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Anastasia in our large windowed studio. It was the perfect way to welcome in the warmer weather.

“Somehow I cannot hide who I am, though I've tried
When will my reflection show who I am inside?” - Reflection Lyrics

Sophie Dannersmith, a longtime vocal student of Lundstrum, sangSe tu mama, se sospiri for her classical piece and “Reflection” from Disney’s Mulan. “Se tu mama, se sospiri was because I needed to work on my open vowels,” Sophie explained, “and ‘Reflection’ is one of my favorite songs in one of my favorite Disney movies.”

Elsa Dungan-Hawks elected to sing two musical theater songs for the recital. She performed “You Are My Lucky Star” from Singin’ in the Rain and the every-tricky “The Wizard and I” from Wicked. “I picked those songs because I felt like they were a struggle for me, and it’s nice for me to have a challenge. I like to get out of my comfort zone.” Elsa especially loves performing and says it makes her more excited to go to class.

“Now, look at what you've just done to me. Now, it's too late to pretend, I tried to play smart, But right from the start, I hoped this was how it would end.” - You Are My Lucky Star Lyrics

It was a special treat to hear from Senior Grace Linquist. She has been training with Kathleen Bloom for seven years. Kathleen recalls how quiet Grace was when she started her training. Both Kathleen and Sue Kosel, the head of our voice department, are proud of how far Grace has come.

Think of me, think of me fondly
When we've said goodbye
Remember me, once in a while
Please promise me you'll try

For her final song, Grace performed "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera. It's a song about remembering people even after you've parted ways. We know we'll remember Grace and her lovely voice, even as she pursues her dreams at college.

All of Lundstrum's voice students showed wonderful growth, in confidence and in skill. We’re proud of their work!
