During the academic school year, Lundstrum Performing Arts’ signature musical theater training program features an integrated curriculum that progressively builds skills in dance, voice and drama. Rigorous and energizing classes are taught by the area’s top industry professionals and introduce students to the classical repertoire of American musical theater.
Lundstrum offers both a Fall Session that runs from September to November and a Winter Session that runs from January to March.

Developing Artists (Ages 4 -14)

Our Developing Artists classes provide an opportunity for young performers to cultivate their artistic imagination and establish a firm foundation of triple-threat training: Dance, Voice and Drama. These fun and supportive classes meet once a week and introduce students to the skills they need to grow into confident individuals and performers. All Developing Artist classes culminate in a showcase performance.

Sing and Dance
(Ages 4-8)

An introductory class for boys and girls who love singing, dancing, acting and creative play.

(Ages 8-14)

Students increase their focus on musical theater technique and integrate these skills into production numbers.

Learn fundamentals of dance (jumps, leaps and turns), singing (pitch, projection), acting, musical theatre repertoire and more.

Focused training for young men in fundamentals of musical theater technique and repertoire.

Conservatory Artists (Ages 9-18)

Taught by industry professionals and Broadway veterans, our conservatory programs are a chance for students to immerse themselves in advanced musical theater training. These classes meet multiple times a week and provide training in acting, improvisation, singing, and multiple styles of dance- ballet, tap, modern, and musical theater repertoire. Many of our conservatory students go on to perform at Minneapolis/Saint Paul theaters like The Guthrie, The Children’s Theater, and The Ordway. All conservatory classes culminate in showcase performances.

Junior Conservatory
(Ages 9-14)

Students deepen their skills in acting, vocal tech, ballet, lyrical, jazz, tap and refine Broadway musical theater repertoire.

(Ages 13-18)

The highest level of our triple-threat program features high-level training in acting, vocal tech, ballet, musical theater repertoire, jazz and tap.

Hip Hop Classes (Ages 8-18)

Lundstrum’s Hip Hop program is an exciting chance for students to learn a variety of styles, choreography and storytelling in an energizing and vibrant environment. Whether students are brand new to hip hop or have been dancing for years, our leveled classes meet all students where they’re at and challenge them with new moves. Hip Hop classes culminate in a performance at our showcase.

Technique Classes (Ages 9+)

The study of musical theater includes a range of disciplines. These technique classes taught by Broadway veterans and industry professionals allow students the chance to focus on a specific discipline in which they wish to excel. Classes meet once a week and do not culminate in a showcase performance.

Ballet
(Ages 9 -18)

Students study core placement and posture, extension, strength, and ballet vocabulary. Classes offered at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

Tap
(Ages 9 -18)

Student learn tap fundamentals and complex rhythms, including shuffles, flaps, slaps, time steps, pull backs, wings, weight shifts, rhythm tap and repertoire.

Adult Tap
(Ages 18+)

Learn the basic vocabulary of tap, rhythms, weight changes, balance, foot articulation, shuffles, flaps and time steps. Offered at three different levels.

Jazz
(Ages 9 -18)

Students learn the elements of jazz dance which include syncopated rhythms, isolations, low center of gravity, parallel and turned in placement.

Acting
(Ages 9-18)

Learn techniques to explore emotional accessibility and range. Classes cover acting for stage, film, and television.

Modern/Contemporary
(Ages 9-18)

Modern/Contemporary is an expressive form of dance that combines elements of several dance genres, including classical ballet, jazz, afro cuban, lyrical and more.
