Lundstrum Presents The Lion King Jr. and Disney’s Descendants

Drum roll, please!
This summer Lundstrum Performing Arts will be presenting
Disney’s The Lion King Jr. and Disney’s Descendants: The Musical.

Based on the Broadway sensation, Lion King Jr. is a fun musical the whole family can enjoy. The African savannah comes to life as Simba, Pumba, Timon, and an unforgettable cast of characters journey from Pride Rock to the jungle... and back again, in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale.

Broadway’s The Lion King is spectacular, joyful and triumphant! “The music created by an amazing team of luminaries including Elton John and Tim Rice, the athleticism of the movement and choreography, and the engaging story are all equally at play in this show,” says Amy Ellis, executive director and part of the creative team at Lundstrum. She says it will be fun to see more “modern and balletic elements of dance take focus in the choreography.” The show will challenge students to blend movement and storytelling in new ways.

NEW THIS YEAR: There will be a special mini-camp for our youngest performers. They’ll focus on ensemble work and getting into character as different animals. They will learn elements of ballet, the Dunham technique, hip hop, songs and choreography.

Lundstrum’s conservatory level students will present Disney’s Descendants: The Musical. Based on the popular Disney Channel Original Movies, this brand-new musical comedy is a twist on your favorite fairytales.

In the present-day kingdom of Auradon, all of Disney’s beloved heroes and royalty are living happily ever after, safe from the terrifying villains and troublesome sidekicks they have banished to the magic-free Isle of the Lost. That is until Ben, the benevolent teenage son of Belle and King Adam (The Beast), offers a chance of redemption for the troublemaking offspring of the evilest villains. Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos – the children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, and Jafar – are welcomed to Auradon Prep to attend school with the children of their parents’ sworn enemies. As the teenagers work to find their place, they have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good?

This show is a lively blend of pop music and Disney musical theater standards, and the costumes. This musical is perfect for anyone who loves Disney and tales told with a twist. It will be wicked fun!

Our musical theater intensives and evening classes are taught by professional performers and are seriously fun. Students are absorbed in a creative musical theater environment with passionate teaching artists of music, singing and vocal production, acting and scene work, ballet, jazz, hip hop, contemporary and more. Combining morning technique classes with afternoon rehearsals, our musical theater intensives offer the perfect combination of training for triple threat performers in dance, voice and drama. Kids will make new friends and new memories!
