Lundstrum Presents The Little Mermaid and Anything Goes
This summer, Lundstrum is setting sail! Join us for a summer full of classic Broadway tunes as we dive under the sea with Disney’s The Little Mermaid and set sail with Anything Goes. Lundstrum musical theater intensives are a great way for aspiring triple-threat performers to hone their skills. With dance, voice and acting classes in the morning and choreography and scene work in the afternoon, these intensives provide students a professional opportunity to put their training in action. Disney’s The Little Mermaid
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a timeless for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World."
Ariel, King Triton's youngest daughter, wishes to explore the human the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.
Lundstrum’s Executive Director Amy Ellis is excited for the casting opportunities the show provides. “It has such wonderful ensemble numbers,” she said, “to show off our youngest performers, who already have so much talent.”
Disney's The Little Mermaid will offer a fantastic opportunity for rich costumes and sets, as well as the chance to perform some of the best-known songs from the past 30 years.
Anything Goes
This Broadway powerhouse is coming ashore at Lundstrum! With dynamite music by Cole Porter, it remains one of the most popular musicals for revivals on Broadway and off. Come dance along to this hijinks-fueled musical comedy.
Anything Goes is set aboard the ocean liner S. S. American, where nightclub singer Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England. Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin and his sidekick-in-crime Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.
”Last summer, we did Descendants which was so much fun and featured a lot of pop/contemporary music,” Amy explained, “this summer, we’re doing a classic Broadway show with lots of big tap numbers and iconic songs, so our students can experience the range of America’s rich musical theater repertoire.”
